I'M 10 YEARS OLD!! UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM 8/12/13: Josephine....a foster part 2 We've had Josephine 3 weeks today. We decided to foster her because of her special needs. She has a skin condition that had been neglected from whoever owned her and she lost most of her fur. Her skin is almost black and thick, like an elephant. She has a snaggle tooth and skin tags everywhere. We have medication for her and after doing a lot of research, we have been giving her a bath every other day, altnernating between an oatmeal shampoo and a medicated shampoo. She has learned a pretty creative way to dray and scratch her stomach. She drags her back legs ... (Read More)behind her like flippers and rubs her tummy on anything and everything. In these 3 weeks, her skin has dried out which is good. We are keeping the yeast away, and the musty odor is now gone. She surprises herself and walks on grass which she hated when we first got her. Our foster Hound Dog Nadine would run into the grass knowing Josephine would not run after her there. They figure this stuff out all on their own. Pretty cool. The Prednisone has caused some bathroom accidents but she generally goes outside. She knows the sound of the refridgerator opening, a candy bar wrapper, or munching on chips. She knows how to sit, gets along with all the dogs and even though she's happy curled up on the back of the couch, she loves to be with us. The purpose of these updates to show how important fostering can be. We can take these poor babies (she's actually about 10-13) and resocialize them, potty train them, get them healthy, and send them to their forever families. Her fur will probably never grow back. But, in her own way, she is BEAUTIFUL!!! Please considering fostering. AHS pays for all medications you may need. I will keep you updated on her progress and her personal growth. I am a boxer mix weighing in at around 45 pounds. I had a bit of rough start so right now I am in foster care where my friend Jesse is teaching me how to act like a good dog. I was a bit undersocialized, so I get scared in unfamiliar situations. It may take me a while to open up to you so I need to find a home with someone who is very patient, very loving, and has at least one other dog that can continue to teach me the ropes. I do not like to go on leash walks, although my ... (Read More)foster mom keeps trying to get me out there. I need to be in a home with a fenced in yard, I feel secure and safe and love to be chased around by other dogs... at least until I get better at leash walks, but that may take a long time. I am working very hard on my housebreaking. The only time I go in the house I use a special piddle pad so it is very easy to clean up. I am very fond of routines and once we figure one out, I will progress very quickly. I am surprisingly good in the bath tub. Every now and then I like to play until I get a little dirty, but I will let you clean me and brush me. As scared as I can get I have never once shown any signs of aggression. I like to learn by watching, and I am almost always paying attention to what the other dogs are doing. I even like to play with the cats once in a while, I am really good with them. I will even let small children pet me, as long as I am familiar with them and they dont scare me. My foster mom is so proud of the progress that I have made in the last few months. One morning I surprised her by crawling into bed in the morning and snuggling with her... and I have done so every morning since. One of my favorite routines! I know that if you show me enough love, support, and patience then one day I will open up to you too... I have so much love to give!
